Christian Louboutin appears in LA store
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- There's nothing quite like that flash of red on the blood-red soles of a Christian Louboutin stiletto. On Wednesday, fans of the French shoe designer are lining up to meet the master himself at Louboutin's Boutique in West Hollywood.
His name is synonymous with the red soles. We're talking about Christian Louboutin who is solely responsible for the shoe addiction that many women have. He came all the way from Paris to appear in his West Hollywood store on Wednesday. He autographed the shoes for women from all over the southland who strutted their way to the store in their red sole stilettos.
Carrie Bradshaw fell in love with the Christian Louboutin stilettos and so have thousands of women from around the world. How did these shoes become so popular? Eyewitness News asked the man himself.
Louboutin said he said that the iconic stiletto was an accident. He grabbed his assistant's nail polish one day to color in the sole on a sketch.
"A woman came back to me and said, 'It's perfect, it's a great thing, red sole- it attracts men,' and so I thought to myself, well, I'm going to stick to red," said Louboutin.
Louboutin is the designer favored by celebrities. The trademark red soles can be seen at any red carpet event. Even Oprah wears them.
They are beautiful, colorful, feminine and sexy, but are they comfortable? Louboutin says yes. The fashionable platform heel gives women the height without putting the pressure on the ball of the foot.
"I would not like my shoes to look comfortable. If someone looks at my shoe and says, 'Oh my god, it looks really super comfortable,' I would not really be sure that it's a compliment, but of course, it is definitely important. It can have a heel of five inches, and it can be an arch of 3 inches," said Louboutin.
But with a price point of around $700 to $800 a pair, looking good doesn't come cheap. Still, not even the price can deter the loyal Louboutin lovers.
"They're timeless," said Casey Lee, Fontana. "You can wear these with anything. I mean, really, I can wear them with my outfit now. I can wear it with what she's wearing right there. I mean, just the design, and you can't beat the red sole."
"They're beautiful, they're exquisite, the make of them and they're comfortable," said Jane Dilullo, Huntington Beach.
As for the red sole shoe addiction, Louboutin assumes no responsibility.
"It's a good addition. There are so many bad addictions. Better be addicted to shoes than something else," said Louboutin.
A pair of new lavender stilettos is displayed at the store, perfect for spring. Also hot for the new season are various bright colors. Flats are also popular as well but nothing can beat the five-inch stiletto heels.
